Collision damage

I had an accident and used the term training. I even had the adjuster, claim person note it was training and non competition. Many have been denied and most policies I see have a stsndard clause of denial for track activities.

I was denied. Not because it was a trackday. I was denied because it took place at a facility designed for competition.

Actually the way the policy read, any accident anywhere in the Road Atlanta complex would not have been covered because they didn’t distinguish between on track and the facility.

I have read of some getting covered. I know the agent and the adjuster have a huge say in coverage.

Bodily injury I assumed my work medical coverage would cover.

I know some people have policies that cover their protective gear.

Thanks J, so was that for the motorcycle that wasn't covered? But bodily injury was?

Motorcycle denied after a day of investigation. My adjuster cited and read the policy. I believe she tried to get me coverage.

I toured the medical facilities at Road Atlanta, but never left for the hospital. All onsite care was free of charge FYI.

This accident by far was my worse and I should of went for a checkup. I

So $60 to join and $390/year individual and $490/year family and they will cover 100% of a helicopter ride?

I'm torn ... I don't want to have to pay for one out-of-pocket but on the other hand, if I had insurance for everything I wouldn't be able to afford anything.

What do you guys think?
I have seen almost no one on a heli. It is very rare. Have you checked with your current coverage provider? What if you were on a dirt bike ride and had to be heli out of the middle of nowhere? Would they cover that?

I would surely push back on that. What if you were walking into the facility to pee and got hurt? Is this the same if you go to a NASCAR race and trip on a turkey leg? I think they're trying to get out of it, and I'd be tempted to call the insurance commissioner.

I honestly have no idea. And I think these are all good questions and shows how ignorant I am about my coverage and I will look into it. I'll get back to you in a couple of months when I get an answer from BCBS.

I’ve seen 3 chopper rides from CMP, 1 from Jennings. I know of at least 2 more at Jennings. Actual percentage I would agree is low compared to total accidents.

This accident was from 2019. If I had an accident off track I would fight it.

On the dreaded FB trackday groups insurance comes up a lot. Many many have been denied. Actual policy verbage quoted.

Some have been covered even by the insurance company I use. At least online they said they were. This is rare. Many people who say anything are wuoting what they heard or read. Many who have actually filed. “DENIED”.

Insurance agents say no way except one company. I don’t remember the name. Their track policy is the same as their street policy but all mentions of track and competition have a strike through.

I’m just giving my real world case study.

Foremost I think is the name of the company providing motorcycle damage. I know Nathan L. He would be an excellent source of information.

My track specific bikes have no insurance. They have boxes of eBay parts at home for incidents. This is a big driver of using cheap, old bikes with and endless supply of parts available for them. They are not shiney. They do not match.

I will occassionally bring an old street bike to a low key track day to make a point to the newer riders who insist of buying crap that won't make them faster/safer. I don't ride in a way that would easily invite an accident, but I'm not sure how the insurance company would handle it. I suspect that they would pay. I have a ton of crap insured with them.

For personal medical, I would challenge anyone who wouldn't cover you for a non-competition event. Training makes you safer, not more dangerous. I am in far more danger leaving my house than riding at a track day.

JRA had some really good points in that thread on the PRE forum. This weekend I'm going to take a close look at our medical coverage, and if it doesn't cover transportation we will probably buy that insurance. Especially since motorcycling isn't the only thing we do that could require medical evacuation.
